METAL BOY
A fuzzy little film shot on an old-skool mobile phone by the lovely Mandy Jones, of me
singing Metal Boy at the Windmill in Brixton. If my info’s correct, I was supporting an
act called Vinny Peculiar, whose band included Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke from The
Smiths. The picture is indistinct and the soundtrack isn’t synchronised, but you can
still feel the energy of the performance and, if nothing else, it proves I could actually
do it (it was quite a tricky song to sing, but here it seems effortless). My eternal
gratitude to Mandy - she came to so many of these shows and went out of her way to
record so many bits like this, so it’s only thanks to her that I’m able to look back and
